M13 - Mrs Peake

Welcome to M13. What a busy week it has been! We have been learning about Water Safety at the Beach and have read a lot of information about rips, currents, swimming between the flags etc. On Wednesday we were lucky enough to have one of our Surf Lifesaving parents visit our grade to reinforce what we have been learning. Some of the children used role play to demonstrate how to use a 'tube' to safely rescue someone from the water. Our focus in Reading has been to look at 'cause and effect' relationships to help improve our comprehension skills. We have read a lot of different types of ‘cause and effect’ texts related to Water Safety. Our Writing focus has been on ‘Discussions’ whereby we have looked at both sides of an issue and outlined arguments FOR and AGAINST. Some of the issues we considered were; ‘Take Away Food’ and ‘Homework’. In Mathematics we have been working hard on improving our understanding of the connection between addition and subtraction, in particular building on the mental strategies we can use. We have done a lot of work on ‘missing element’ and have loved playing the card game ‘Salute’ to strengthen our mental skills. Stay tuned to hear what we get up to next week!
