A message from the Principal
The Surfside Primary School motto of "Believe in Yourself" has, as its background, an understanding that the health and well being of all students has a direct and positive effect on the quality of their learning. If students feel good about themselves, feel confident in their own skills and abilities, feel supported and encouraged, in other words "believe in themselves", then quality learning has a far greater chance of happening. The staff at Surfside Primary School looks for opportunities to show, through their classroom approach, that all students are valued and able to achieve individual success in a variety of ways. At Surfside we have a commitment to a caring and safe atmosphere, which promotes emotional, social and academic development. We operate as a community where students, teachers and parents contribute to an open, welcoming and trusting environment with high expectations of everyone. We provide a planned stimulating learning atmosphere promoting a variety of teaching and learning styles, emphasising individual effort and improvement. We offer well-resourced programs, with an emphasis on fun, excitement, appropriate risk taking and creativity. By maintaining a caring and safe environment and valuing emotional, social and academic development, students are able to enhance their self-esteem in a way, which supports their learning. The provision of an exciting music and arts program and a whole school approach to the development of motor skills ensures that students are offered a range of opportunities to "believe in themselves" outside the classroom. Human values are taught, behaviour boundaries are set, and a learning environment is created where participation of the child is optimised. At Surfside Primary School, "Believe in Yourself" is the central focus of a rewarding educational experience. Mark Huglin |
