Believe in Yourself
Written by the 1994 Grade 5 and 6 students for the official opening of Surfside Primary School on 22nd May, 1994.
Our school really began way back in 1891
When children went to Ocean Grove.
The school was small and
With only a few children.
But in time, the school grew and grew,
Bursting at the seams.
A new school was decided to be built.
We remained with our friends for a short period of time,
And then we sadly departed.
It was on May the 4th, in 1993,
We began our trek to Surfside.
Excitement was high as we walked along.
Winding down John Dory Drive.
A brand new school!
How lucky we are!
We even have a great view of the sea.
The new school is great with all the new buildings,
That had never been used before.
And all the new classrooms,
That we could work in.
With all the new equipment,
We could play on, during sport and playtime.
Surfside has a lot to offer,
When it comes to equipment.
We have two adventure playgrounds,
And we also have a flying fox.
We have a gym with open spaces,
And a huge area to play in.
Our teachers have come from far and wide,
And committed themselves to Surfside.
They’ve worked hard and long and spent many hours,
To get the school up and running.
They’re friendly and caring,
And keep the children working.
The future of the school is in good hands.
The school will surely grow.
