Welcome

Welcome to Surfside Primary School!

On behalf of the Surfside Primary School staff and school council members, it is a pleasure to extend a warm welcome to our Surfside Primary School community. We are part of a unique and inclusive seaside community that has a strong link with our values, culture and landscape. At the core of our school community are the students and their continued development academically, socially and emotionally.

At Surfside our school values assist in the development of our school goals – Respect, Honesty, Teamwork and Achievement – allowing each student the opportunity to Believe in Yourself! This enables all individual students to recognise their own talents and abilities within our learning community and be developed to work towards a strength-based approach.

We promote and support a growing level of student agency through the development and understanding of student learning dispositions. This focus on the students as partners and drivers in their learning process allows them to develop life-long learning skills and builds a level of confidence for students to work towards their learning, social and emotional goals.

Our core focus at Surfside Primary School is to build, develop and enhance high quality literacy and numeracy learning experiences. This is further supported and enhanced through investigative and inquiry-based learning experiences in extra-curricular areas. Students are also offered a range of learning experiences through a diverse specialist program of visual art, music, physical education, sport, languages, digital learning and the Stephanie Alexander kitchen and garden program. Digital technology is used to enhance learning experiences for our students and to provide them with the 21st century learning and technology skills required for the future.

Student engagement and wellbeing is a priority to best support the social and emotional development of all of our students. This is best supported through the implementation of social and emotional learning lessons, school wide positive behaviour support, zones of regulation and a focus on goal setting and reflection. A dedicated mental health and wellbeing team support staff, students and the Surfside community through proactive programs and individual and group-based support plans. The individual needs of students are supported through the development of individual education plans and students and staff providing feedback on their learning goals.

We provide a thorough and engaging transition program for our new Foundation students and families as they work towards the start of their learning journey at Surfside Primary School. We support students as they transition throughout the school with step up days and work collaboratively with our secondary schools to be best support our year 6 students as they move onto their next stage of secondary learning.

We provide our educational staff with collaborative opportunities to support student learning through the implementation of Professional Learning Communities. Our staff are dedicated and passionate to allow each child the opportunity to be the best they can be through providing an innovative and engaging learning experience. We consistently work towards the development of the whole child through academic, social and emotional development within a safe and caring learning environment.

Our school has a strong culture of professional development and life-long learning opportunities that are reviewed and developed annually through our annual implementation plan goals and outcomes. Like our students we work on a strength-based approach and identify further areas of improvement in relation to student, staff and community feedback and data.

We have a supportive parent community who work in partnership with the school to best support each child. Together our school community works towards creating a sense of belonging and pride that allows all to be active members of the Ocean Grove broader community.

We aim to inspire our students to be creative, innovative and socially equipped to thrive through:

  • Allow children the opportunity to achieve individual academic success
  • Nurture strong relationships between students, staff, families and the community
  • Cultivate a caring and inclusive environment in which students flourish
  • Provide diverse programs focussed on growing the whole child
  • Allow a collaborative approach to teaching and learning

We are proud of our Surfside Primary School learning community and we look forward to welcoming and working with you through your child’s learning journey. We invite new students and families from our local area to contact the school for further details or arrange a tour.
